Battlefield 3 Hits 8 million Units Sold

THE BUZZ: When Battlefield 3 launched October 27, it made for EA’s biggest day-one shipment ever, pushing ten million units to store shelves. Meanwhile, that sell-through number hit five million by the end of the game’s launch week, which was bested by Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with six and a half million units sold in its first 24 hours on sale.
Today Gamespot is reporting that EA revealed the current sell-through number has hit eight million units. The announcement was made during an investor presentation by Electronic Arts CEO Eric Brown.
EGM’s TAKE: Eight million units sold is nothing to scoff at. We wonder, with such high sell-through numbers on both sides of this field, is one franchise taking players away from the other, or are gamers buying both these games? One thing is for sure, EA’s push to gain equal ground with the Activision is still an uphill battle, but with eight million units in gamers’ hands the followers are there to build a proper franchise.
