Even a beginner can pick up and play Duels 2013

Planechase is a new mode being added to this year’s Duels of the Planewalkers game from Wizards of the Coast. It uses a new set of giant cards that represent different planes—each has a unique ability that changes the game in some way. The mode features four players and is basically exactly the same as a normal game of Magic except for these cards.

Each turn a player gets a free roll of the Planes Dice located in the middle of the board. Four sides are blank and four have Planes symbols. Land on a symbol and you can turn over a card, which changes the filed to a certain Plane and brings with it a unique rule e.g. colorless mana, free summons and more. The idea is to roll the dice and keep a Plane that is favorable to you in play. Players also have the ability to pay a set amount of mana in order to roll the dice again.

The mode offers something different to do once you complete the game’s main campaign. The meta-game is more than enough to keep fans interested and the mode should add that little bit extra for hardcore Magic fans.
