EA Fight Night Team Developing Next MMA Game, EA Sports UFC

Pour out a cold one for the UFC Undisputed series, mixed martial arts fans. EA has officially announced that their Fight Night team will be developing the next UFC title, dubbed EA Sports UFC.
It’s an interesting selection, especially given that EA already has a team that’s put a lot of production into EA Sports MMA, which showcased fighters and personalities from Strikeforce—formerly a competitor to the UFC before being purchased by Zuffa, the UFC’s parent company. For EA to use their Fight Night team in Canada instead of EA Sports MMA‘s Tiburon team is a little strange.
Still, this Fight Night studio has been recognized by several press outlets and critic as one of the most talented combat sports developers in game, especially with the polish and finess displayed since Fight Night Round 3. If they can do such a good boxing game, the next UFC title be should fine.
It’s quite a weird thing to see happening, though, given past clashes between the two companies. UFC president Dana White made waves in the MMA and gaming press after the release of EA Sports MMA, claiming the publisher/developer ‘laughed’ at the idea of doing a game with them, only to jump on the bandwagon after the success of THQ’s UFC Undisputed 2009.
