First Look: Sleeping Dogs

By
Posted on February 9, 2012 AT 02:02am
On December 12th, 2009, Activision debuted a trailer for a new game at the Spike Video Game Awards 2009. That game was True Crime, a working title for the third official release in Luxoflux' True Crime series. READ MORE

Shank 2

By
Posted on February 8, 2012 AT 05:07pm
The first Shank took me to a happy place. I’ve long lamented the disappearance of the 2D side-scrolling brawler, and the cartoony-yet-überviolent digital release took me back to favorites like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. Shank 2 picks up where the original left off, with the same crisp art style, fast-paced action, and absurdly awesome combo system, while providing enough polish to keep fans of the original happy. Star Wars: The Old Republic

By
Posted on February 8, 2012 AT 12:01pm
Star Wars: The Old Republic is easily the largest game I’ve ever reviewed in more than 20 years of covering games. At first, it felt like a daunting task—assigning a score to a game of this scope. And then I realized, “I’ve played the game for 150 hours, and I’m ready to start a new character and experience a new story.” That says something. READ MORE

Hands-On:
Blades of Time

By
Posted on February 6, 2012 AT 09:01am
When Russia’s Gaijin Entertainment made “Oniblade” in 2007 — or “X-Blades” as it was known when it came out in the U.S. and Europe two years later — they attempted to make a Japanese-style hack & slash action game (and, many critics would argue, failed miserably). Now the studio is preparing to release “Blades of Time,” which, despite having the same female lead character, is not only not a sequel, but is also taking a more Western approach to this kind of action game. Hands-On:
Birds of Steel

By
Posted on February 6, 2012 AT 09:00am
When “Forza Motorsport 4” came out last October, it took a unique approach to driving games by being both a realistic racing sim and an arcade-esque driving game. Now the World War II aerial dogfighting game “Birds of Steel” — which is slated to be released on the 360 and PS3 in March — is similarly attempting to have it both ways. READ MORE

Soul Calibur V

By
Posted on February 3, 2012 AT 06:32pm
“C’mon, man—who cares about the story in a fighting game?!” Those are words I’ve heard repeatedly when I’ve tried to defend my oft-ridiculed stance that I play Soul Calibur for the story. I’ll admit that’s a slight exaggeration—I’ve been a huge fan of the venerable weapons-based fighting franchise’s sword-on-sword action itself for 15 years now, first slicing my way through Soul Edge in arcades and on the PS1.
