Mortal Kombat

By
Posted on June 24, 2011 AT 04:49pm
Several fighting game franchises have experienced revivals in the last three years, so isnt it Mortal Kombats turn? Although Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe delivered an HD-era MK experience, it also suffered from rather uninspired brawling and lacked the sinew and sanguinity expected by its core fanbase. Now the team has a new name and a new publisher, and is taking the opportunity to make a fresh start. Though not without some hiccups, Mortal Kombat regains its footing after years of less-than-exemplary sequels. READ MORE

Trenched

By

The tower-defense genre is ubiquitous on the Web and mobile phones, as it’s usually designed specifically with the limitations of those platforms in mind. Trenched puts a different spin on the standard formula, utilizing the power of home consoles to evolve strategies beyond the simple point, click, rinse, and repeat repetitiveness that relentlessly plagues similar offerings. Alice: Madness Returns

By

Do you like to jump in games? Not just jump—because in Alice: Madness Returns, you can’t jump in the somewhat restrictive combat structure—but do you like to jump on moving, disappearing, deviously placed platforms that remind you of games from a bygone era? Your answer is paramount to your enjoyment of this purebred action-platformer sequel to 2000’s American McGee’s Alice. READ MORE

Virtua Tennis 4

By

VT4 reminds me of an aging, broken-down Andre Agassi making his final run at the 2006 U.S. Open. Some of that old flash that made us fall in love is still there, but it’s clear that his reign’s been usurped by younger, more well-rounded opponents. Just like with Agassi, image is now everything to VT—and it’s clear that the series survives mostly on the image of Dreamcast nostalgia. READ MORE
