8 Million Copies Sold – Congrats Minecraft!

“Across all platforms, Minecraft sold 453k copies on dec 24! Wowzers! <3″ was the Tweet sent out by Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson. Christmas Eve marked quite an impressive sales push for Mojang’s title. And as if that’s not cool enough, the Xbox 360 edition of the game reached 5 million sold as of December 31st. According to the Minecraft website over 8 million copies of the game have been sold to date. While many who judge Minecraft before they play it may not be impressed with the game’s less than cutting edge graphics, it’s clear that the family friendly title still has a growing fan base.

Congrats to the entire Minecraft team on their accomplishments thus far!
