AbleGamers Enables Fun For All Gamers.
Posted on May 26, 2012 AT 11:10pm
I remember being a kid a long time ago playing SNES with a friend of mine fairly often. One day he came to my place wearing a cast because he broke his arm in an accident. This would cause quite a problem as he wasn’t exactly able to play SNES games with me just using one hand. In a flash idea I thought to play a one-player game with me using one of my hands to control the D-pad and his free hand to press the buttons. That idea didn’t work too well, but it was the thought that counted.
Instead of someone with a broken arm, imagine someone who barely has arms, or even fingers. At a glance it would seem impossible for someone with such a disability to be able to play games. However, the fine folks at The Ablegamers Foundation have created a possibility for Giddeon, a young gamer who has a rare disease that stunted the growth of his arms and fingers. They started off by giving him a way to play Forza 3 with the ‘Adroit’ controller and then went as far as giving him a way to make “Fruit Ninja” for the Kinect accessable.
It’s definitely a heartwarming moment out of many created by the hard work and creativity of the Ablegamers foundation. If you would like to read Giddeon’s story and a few others, be sure to check out their website at www.AbleGamers.com
