American McGee’s Spicy Horse Unleashing Multiplayer, Multi-Platform Mayhem

Posted on July 22, 2012 AT 07:10am

American McGee, known best for his twisted takes on classic tales [Alice and Grimm] , as well as his work at iD Software ‘back in the day’. Now he and his company Spicy Horse have brought us a new type of fractured fairy tale: Crazy Fairies.

The simplest way to explain the game is ‘Worms [or Gunbound, if you happen to be familiar with it] with fairy tale-esque characters’. You can level up your weapons and equipment using gems that you earn as spoils of war. Along with those gems, you can find skill cards to temporarily pump up your attack/defense. What makes it truly interesting, though, is that it’s going to be headed to multiple platforms and will allow multiplayer across every single version. Currently, it’s in open beta over Spicy Horse’s ‘Spicyworld’ website, Kongregate, and Facebook. Next, it will be finding its way to iOS and Android. It should be showing up in each of the mobile marketplaces before the end of Summer.

Wonder how it plays between platforms? Take a peek!

Thanks to the Unity engine, and a bit of creative re-engineering, Spicy Horse will be bringing us one of the first truly multi-platform games that doesn’t require the player to jump through an endless number of hoops. I got a chance to play it a bit, personally, and I think it’s really promising. There’s a great variety of weapons, skills, and characters to choose from. Also, unlike many F2P games, this doesn’t feel like it’s going to end up as a shameless moneygrab.

If you’d like to give it a shot, you can go to any of these locations to do so:

And if you get blown up by Nyancat: That’s me, loving you… to pieces! [insert disturbing laughter here]

But seriously. Go play it! Let me know what you think. Could it be the next Worms?

Bryan Todd [aka DieselBT] -- This is where I'm supposed to say something clever about myself. Let's pretend I did, and it conveniently mentions all of my top interests, such as anime, video games, crazy gadgets, electronic music, voice acting, sound editing, and countless other ridiculously fascinating topics. I also like to write stuff about things, which is why I'm here.

...That, and I like your shirt.
