James Rolfe has been the Angry Video Game Nerd for years now. Using a blend of legitimate criticism of the bastard children of the 8-bit era and an incredibly foul mouth, Rolfe has become an internet celebrity. Personally I think James can put out some really great work and has a great understanding of how to tell a story, but I also feel like he’s pigeon holed himself into this character and to just push the envelope when it comes to profanity and toilet humor. Maybe I’ve just grown out of his audience’s age range, or maybe the appeal has worn off. Either way James’ support base managed to muster up enough cash to crowd source a movie based on the iconic character, The Angry video Game Nerd. Check out the trailer below.
The film is inspired by the famous Atari video game burial of 1982. Atari produced a game based on the biggest blockbuster movie of that year, E.T., and rushed it to meet the deadline for the Christmas shopping season. It was a commercial failure and millions of unsold game cartridges were buried in a desert landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Coincidentally, it’s not too far from Roswell, the landing site of a different kind of E.T.
