ARCHOS GamePad, A Full-On Gaming Tablet

Posted on September 16, 2012 AT 01:06pm

The ARCHOS GamePad is an Android 4.0 tablet just for gamers. This new revolutionary contains a 7″ capacitive touchscreen, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, and a quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU. As can be seen in the picture, it flaunts physical gaming controls namely dual analog sticks and a D-pad.

A big plus for the GamePad is that it will be Google certified. What will this mean? It means that users will have full access to the Google Play store and Google’s own apps like Gmail, Maps, and Calendar. On top of that, Archos has said that the GamePad will have automatic game recognition and mapping tools. This patented technology ensures that virtual controls can be mapped to the GamePad’s physical control buttons.

Henri Crohas, ARCHOS Founder and CEO, says “When Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, was first released they included game controller support within the framework and that is when we decided to build the GamePad. Thanks to the mapping and automatic game recognition systems included on the GamePad, we already have over a thousand android games compatible with the ARCHOS GamePad’s physical controls, including back catalog titles that originally didn’t include physical controls.”

ARCHOS invites all developers interested in getting their current and upcoming games mapped for the GamePad to contact them. Send an email to

European gamers can keep an eye out for the GamePad starting at the end of October 2012. An exact price has not yet been released, but ARCHOS says it will be less than 150 Euro.
