BioShock Infinite Team Irrational Games Sees Yet More Turnover in Key Staff

The BioShock series is one of the few that over the past few years has helped redefine what a First Person Shooter game can really be. It takes cues from the survival horror genre and adds in its own unique take on the genre of run-n-gun. The past two games have featured exceptional stories, some truly amazing gameplay and overall atmosphere, something that a lot of games in the same genre tend to miss. So it is safe to say that the third in the series, BioShock Infinite, is incredibly anticipated and for publisher 2K games and is something they are planning their fiscal year around.

There have been some setbacks for BioShock Infinite, to the point where the original Fall ‘12 release date has now become February 26, 2013 and over the past few days there has been even more movement to leave fans crestfallen. Yesterday, it came out that two top members of Irrational Games (the team working on BioShock Infinite) have left, which at this stage in development is a rather impactful blow no matter how you spin it. Tim Gerritsen, director of product management and the art director, Nate Wells, have both left the company. This comes after what has felt like a revolving door of departures over the last year or so on that team and has left fans wondering about the fate of the third BioShock.

The game’s creative director, Ken Levine, was quick to try to put out the fire, announcing that Scott Sinclair, the art director from the original BioShock game was back in the art director’s chair and that everything was moving along smoothly. By the looks of it, Gears of War producer Rod Fergusson might also have been brought on to the staff, taking over for the now departed Gerritsen to assure that the title ships on time. Of course, this comes with talks of the planned multiplayer aspects of the game looking to be a complete failure of an experiment and for fans to not expect to see any multiplayer when the game launches. Levine still promises an engrossing, true-to-form experient for BioShock fans when the game launches in February, now it is just time for them to put their money where their mouth is.

BioShock Infinite has a planned release date of February 26, 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii U.
