C2E2 has just finished up, and with he big convention done and over with, Dark Horse comics had quite of bit of news to announce on several new pieces of their company, with the first coming from a slew of creators for a massive mini-series.
The eight issue series, Grindhouse: Doors Open At Midnight, is four Alex de Campi written stories that last forty eight pages each. These B-movie inspired stories are supposed to be the worst of the worst, with more blood, gore, violence and insanity than one series should contain. With art by skilled creators such as Chris Peterson (“Bee Vixens From Mars”), Simon Fraser (“Prison Ship Anteres”), Gary Erskine (“Flesh Feast Of The Devil Doll”) and Federica Manfredi (“Bride Of Blood”), this looks like an incredibly over-the-top book that will surely be a hit when it releases on October 1st.
Coming a day later on October 2nd isThe Occultist, the brand new Tim Seely/Mike Norton project. This supernatural superhero series will feature a mystical sword, the superhero that calls himself The Occultist, and a Catholic Schoolgirl that has some interesting hobbies.
Dark Horse also announced Buzzkill, a brand new Donny Cates and Mark Reznicek series about a superhero who gets his power from getting drinking insane amounts of alcohol. When he decides to get clean, the villains of the world are getting ready to celebrate. This book comes out on September 18th, so get ready for a drunken disaster of a title that is likely to be full of awesome.
Witch Hunt, the new Victor Gischler/Juan Ferreyra series was also announced at C2E2, featuring the mafia, the supernatural and much more. Cassian Steele is the leader of the Werewolf Mafia and has sent out a hit against Verona, the woman who knows his dark secret. What they mafia is unaware of, however, is that a demon trying to rectify his existence, Barnabus Black, is serving as her protection. The first issue of this series will also be available September 18th, so be sure to check it out.
Finally, the biggest news of all: Comics icon Mike Mignola has not one, but TWO new Hellboy titles to announce. The first is an all0ages title called Itty Bitty Hellboy, a series that will take the big red menace on a brand new adventure that will pit him against the ghost Rasputin. A brand new team will be taking on the character, withArt Baltazar and Franco Aureliani putting their spin on Hellboy. Come August 28th, Hellboy gets Itty Bitty!
Mignola also had another announcement on the Hellboy front, with Duncan Fegredo returning to the character with the brand new Hellboy: The Midnight Circus series. This fifty-six page graphic novel depicts a young Hellboy running away from the B.P.R.D., only to find an interesting circus that houses demons and creatures of all sorts.
