Thunderhawk Studios, an internal developer under Mad Catz, is bringing a brand new flight simulator game to the table. Combat Pilot will introduce multiplayer military aviation and combat ops to the realistic world of flight simulation. Flight sim enthusiasts from around the world will be able to train, fly, fight and interact together via dedicated servers.
The first installment of this new series is titled Flight Training Operations (FTO). Upon entering the Combat Pilot world, players must earn their wings like every other pilot in history. Players begin as a new cadet assigned to NAS Whiting Field in Pensacola, Florida. Flight training consists of 40 flight hours flown within the community, as well as six to eight check rides in simulators. When training at NAS Whiting Field is completed, players will report to NAS Fallon for training at Top Gun. As players progress, opportunities will arise for promotion, along with the receipt of citations, awards and Combat Pilot Experience. With over 25 nations to choose a career from, a player’s choices will impact whether or not they will reach the rank of Commanding or Executive Officer.
“We believe that Combat Pilot will prove to be an important destination for the flight simulation community to gather, interact, and share experiences,” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. “Mad Catz’ Saitek brand and flight simulation is an important part of our company’s culture and Combat Pilot will allow the flight simulation community to come together and interact as never before.”
Combat Pilot will cost $49.99 initially and that includes the first month of play. Afterwards, there is a monthly price of $11.99 per month. For a full year of play, the cost will be roughly $180. According to responses from the “Combat Pilot Duty Officer” on the game’s official site, “all I can say is we intend to make it worth it”. This author sure hopes for follow through on that promise for those looking forward to the game.
Combat Pilot FTO will be released on PC, exclusively, before the end of the summer.
