Comic Countdown #37: Presidential Nominees

By
Posted on September 23, 2012 AT 08:39pm

It’s time once again for the Comic Countdown, where comic book topics are put into a top ten format. With the presidential election coming to a close in the near future, and with the newest arc of Marvel’s “Ultimates” line placing the star-spangled solider himself, Captain America, behind the desk of the oval office, it seemed like a good time to think of some other candidates for President Of The United States Of Comics. Aside from Cap, these ten people have the leadership, resolve, and fortitude to lead this great nation under massive odds. While there are a vast amount of characters (and the fact that Marvel has taken on the task already), a lot of Marvel characters will be used here, but there are always many who aren’t on the list that would do a great job. Also, let it be noted that several prime candidates (Black Panther, Doctor Doom) were left off the list due to not meeting the initial requirement of being a natural0born American citizen (the age requirement is being ignored in this case).

#10: Jackie Estacado (Top Cow Productions)

The star of Artifacts and his own series, The Darkness, Jackie has several qualities that would make for a great leader: he’s driven, resilient, and gets the job done. While he may have his flaws (commanding hellish demons, the whole killing people thing), doesn’t everyone? Jackie would be an efficient candidate, superb in war-time, effective in negotiation (killing people who don’t do what you want counts as negotiating, right?) and able to get the team together, Jackie could make for an interesting Commander-in-Chief.

#9: She-Hulk (Marvel Comics)

Jennifer Walters could follow in the footsteps of many former Presidents by going from the Courthouse to the White House, and given her resilience, knowledge and skill, Jen has the skills to do the job. While she’d be the first female in the role, most people wouldn’t feel confident arguing with her or criticizing that fact.

#8: Doctor Manhattan (DC Comics)

He may be blue, but he’d be a great fit in the White House. He has very unique skills, and given a role in which to really have the freedom to get things done, could put an end to many of the problems plaguing this country. He could heal the sick, stop wars, and do many other things that could make a major impact. Just have to make sure he starts wearing clothes, or cabinet meetings could get a bit awkward.

#7:Maria Hill (Marvel Comics)

She’s run S.H.I.E.L.D., helped save the world, and been a major part of some very unique and covert operations for the United States government. She has the credentials of a true leader, the connections to help make sure thing stay peaceful and prosperous, and could possibly even convince someone like Nick Fury to run with her, making the most combat-sound pairing to ever hit the Oval Office. She’s also got some friends in pretty high places, with Iron Man and Captain America on her speed-dial, so those looking to take on the U.S. may have quite a task with her at the helm.

#6:Professor Xavier (Marvel Comics)

He’s a natural leader, an advocate for mutant rights, and in most cases, shows that he’s pretty hard to stop, even with his physical handicap. His psychic abilities could also prove rather useful, especially during negotiation and when needing to speak to the public. After all, who needs television when he can speak directly into your mind?

#5:Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics)

Former military, former Avenger, and full-time heroic badass, Carol Danvers, who has recently taken on the role of Captain Marvel, has the skills to get things going as a leader. With her experience leading the Avengers, her time with the Starjammers, and her overall abilities, Carol could help defend the country, and the Earth on the front lines, from anything and anyone in the universe.

#4: Batwoman (DC Comics)

Kate Kane is many things, most of which lean on her ability to be awesome. She’s skilled in combat, very driven, and able to work with others when the time calls for it. While she doesn’t have the name recognition of some of the others in the Bat-family, she’s just as good a candidate as her counter-part. It would also mark the emergence of the first openly-gay President, and could also help relations on that end, fighting for the rights of the homosexual community, as well as equal rights for all. Plus, if people don’t want to listen to her policies, she can always hit them in the face.

#3: Iron Man (Marvel Comics)

He’s led S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, and a myriad of major operations throughout his life, and given his stubborn, driven demeanor, former life as a weapons dealer, and his current leadership in the clean energy movement, Tony Stark could be a major asset as Commander-in-Chief, able to use his natural charisma and charm to win over the population, and his tremendous technical abilities to make major advances for the country.

#2: Batman (DC Comics)

He’s incredibly smart, driven and proficient in many different fields. His gadgetry is second only to possibly the #3 choice, and he’s already got his running mate within arms reach. His leadership with the rest of the Bat-family is something to take note of, and he’s skilled in so many things that he’d be an ideal choice as a leader, as long as he tones down the ‘vigilante’ act and begins to act more towards the interests of the people. The justice things works well, though.

#1: Cable (Marvel Comics)

That leaves only ones aside from Cap that could really do the job as President: Cable. He’s got all the tools: experience (he was once President of Rumekistan), abilities (his mutant powers and skill with many different weapons), and oh, he’s also from the future, so he’d know how to make sure things work out for the best. He’s also lead groups such as X-Force, so the leadership tools are there as well. Cable is the man for the job, if given the chance.

That’s it for this week, make sure to leave any questions, comments or other choices in the section below. Until next week!

Russ Pirozek, known as "Noobcrawler" to some, is a gamer and comic book fan who sometimes gets around to writing for DigitalNoob.com. He's also awesome. If someone looked up "awesome" in the dictionary, his picture wouldn't be there, but that's because he's too busy being awesome to pose for a photo.
