Comic Countdown #70: Marvel Cinematic Universe Dreamcasts

Posted on May 18, 2013 AT 10:20pm

With the rights for several Marvel characters coming back to Marvel Studios in the last few weeks, it seemed like a good idea to take a look at some of the characters that may be making their way into Marvel films in the near future (Phase 3 or later). While Marvel still has a few characters out there that they can’t touch, there are several that can now be delivered under the Marvel banner. With Avengers 2 on the horizon, two well-known characters have been announced as additions to the film. That being said, let’s get to naming both of them, as well as a few others who could be making their way to the MCU in the Comic Countdown!

#10: Charlie Hunnam, Ghost Rider

Sony recently allowed the rights for the fledgling Ghost Rider franchise head back to Marvel Studios. While Nicolas Cage was already featured in the title role, with the series likely being rebooted, it’s time to claim a new soul for the mantle of the Ghost Rider. While there are no real reasons to include Johnny Blaze in an Avengers sequel, he could make a name somewhere else in the near future. Hunnam, who has made his name in Sons Of Anarchy, could be a good fit as the motorcycle riding badass. He already knows how to be one, and his acting chops would fit the character well.

#9: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Daredevil

He’s already rumored to be the next Batman, but if that doesn’t work out, he could work out quite well as the blind lawyer who moonlights as the mighty Daredevil. Daredevil’s worked with Avengers before, but not as a member of the team. With Marvel recently getting the rights to the character back, he could still make an appearance in the near future, either in a lead-in film or in one of the Avengers titles.

#8: Terry Crews, Luke Cage

This is a popular pick for many people, but this very funny actor has the perfect build for Luke Cage. His attitude, physique and acting skills make Crews a perfect candidate for the former New Avengers leader. Adding in Cage would make for a terrific addition to the already iconic Avengers cast, bringing a bit of edge to the team.

#7:  Alexander Skarsgard , Iron Fist

This rising Swedish actor has been known for his work on the television show True Blood, but he could work out well as the martial artist and Immortal Weapon known as Danny Rand, the  Iron Fist. An underutilized actor, he could really make a name for himself with a stellar performance as Rand.

#6: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Black Panther

Bringing King T’Challa into the fray as a member of the Avengers would be a huge addition, bringing forth the ability to not only lead, but using the element Vibranium in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. It would help explain away a lot of different things, as well as bringing some much needed depth to the Avengers roster. Royalty, respect and skill would make the Black panther a welcome addition.

#5: Katee Sackhoff, Carol Danvers

Bringing in Ms./Captain Marvel would be huge, and Sackhoff has the look, the attitude and the acting chops to pull it off. With the recent events of Captain Marvel’s career with her rise to the title and her incredible leadership skills, she’s a perfect fit into the Avengers. She also led them once, and Sackhoff already has experience as a main cast member, and bringing her in as a hero seems like a great fit.

#4: Rashida Jones, Janet Van Dyne

Jones doesn’t have a whole lot of experience being on a major picture, especially an action film. Known mainly for her roles on comedies, Jones still seems to be a great fit for the shape changing Wasp. She would definitely need to train a bit to get to the physicality of the role, but her acting skills would make for a great Janet van Dyne.

#3: Seamus Dever, Hank Pym

While he’s mainly known for his supporting role on the TV show Castle, Dever has the right build and the right demeanor to play Hank Pym. While he may need to bulk up a bit after Pym’s change to Ant Man, his acting skills would work well to play the gifted scientist.

#2: Jensen Ackles, Quicksilver

The man with a mouth as fast as his feet, the “mutant” Quicksilver would be played very well by Supernaturalstar Jensen Ackles. Hi’s shown he can play clever and comedic with a sarcastic overtone, has done his fair share of action work and is familiar with an added, super-human element with his work on the long running show.

#1: Stana Katic, Scarlet Witch

Another member of the Castle cast makes the list here, with Katic making the list as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, Wanda Maximoff. Pairing with Ackles as the brother/sister team, Katic knows drama, action and attitude, and with the chaotic abilities of Maximoff available, this could be a really fun role for the actress.

Russ Pirozek, known as "Noobcrawler" to some, is a gamer and comic book fan who sometimes gets around to writing for He's also awesome. If someone looked up "awesome" in the dictionary, his picture wouldn't be there, but that's because he's too busy being awesome to pose for a photo.
