Dark Horse Announces Killjoys Launch, One Dollar Reissues, Image Comics To Release Zed: A Cosmic Tale
Posted on December 17, 2012 AT 07:20pm
Dark Horse Comics has a lot to be happy about at the moment, with star musician/Eisner-winning comics writer Gerard Way (Umbrella Academy, My Chemical Romance) prepping the release of The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, which was the basis for the MCR album of similar name, with the album then turning around and being used as inspiration for the new title.
“The original idea for the comic informed the record,” Way noted. “The record helped refine the idea, and then Becky [Cloonan] had done a drawing of the Girl for the single ‘The Only Hope for Me Is You’ and I saw it and thought, this is the comic. It’s basically the last video, it’s the last part of the Killjoys story, while at the same time being totally its own thing.”
An early preview of the series will be seen at Free Comic Book Day in 2013, with the first issue of this exciting series launching on June 6th, 2013.
Dark Horse also announced that two of their biggest titles will be getting reprints as part of their hit One for One campaign. Selling a first issue of a series for only a dollar, this initiative was a major success for the company, and they will launch it once again with two major titles, the first issues of The Massive, the ecology-focused Brian Wood series, and Matt Kindt’s psychic thriller, MIND MGMT. These titles will be available in the Previews section of the Diamond catalog on January 30th.
Image also announced that the incredible journey of Zed: A Cosmic Tale will be released by the company, marking the end of over a decade of creation by Michael Gagné. After working on the series from 2001 to 2011, Gagné decided to make the ten issue series into a graphic novel, and spent months reworking the title to iron out some of the inconsistencies. Image Comics is now publishing the graphic novel, due for a January 2013 release.
