‘Dark Knight’ Star Bale Visits Shooting Victims
Posted on July 24, 2012 AT 03:46pm
There’s always some who say that stars and celebrities put themselves above others, and in a way, it’s true. But when “The Dark Knight Rises” leading man Christian Bale made his way to Aurora, Colorado, and met with some of the victims who were injured in the horrific shooting of the midnight showing this past Friday, some of that stigma has to dissolve. Bale, sometimes known for his outrageous temper on set, set out to Aurora today with his wife, and met with victims, police officers, and EMTs who responded to the shootings.
Bill Voloch, interim president of Medical Center of Aurora, was amazed at the actor and his kindness, spending about two and a half hours at the hospital. “The patients were really happy to meet Bale,” Voloch said. “They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman and were really pleased to see Bale… It was good for the patients,” he continued. “We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.”
It’s said that Bale contacted the hospital directly and told them that he wanted to come visit, but didn’t want the media involved, that “he just wanted to meet the victims and police.”
An assistant for Susan Fleishman, executive vice president of Warner Brothers, when questioned about Bale’s trip, responded, “Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers.”
To me? I say this was an act of kindness, not some PR stunt. The fact that Bale didn’t want the media involved says something about it all. Good show, Mr. Bale.
