Darksiders II Wants You to Harvest the Souls of the Innocent
Posted on July 19, 2012 AT 05:10pm
Now normally, I’m a little judgemental of video game tie-in Apps but Darksiders II “Soul Harvest” has enough going for it that I just don’t care about it taking up space on my phone. In Soul Harvest, players can compete by “harvesting souls” of others who check into nearby locations via Facebook, the more souls you collect, the more rewards you receive. Now what are these rewards that could possibly be worth connecting your phone and scurrying around, harvesting the souls of the innocent people around you?
Well, the prospect of a free in-game weapon is a good start. Getting a copy of the first issue of the “Darksiders” digital comic along with a few mobile backgrounds, access to game trailers and other footage of the coming game definitely helps sweeten the deal. Oh, and the daily chance to win a full-sized replica Death scythe just by having the App is a really nice deal. That, and those daily Death Scythe winners are also entered into a grand prize drawing for a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula.
“The Soul Harvest app is a great way for Darksiders fans to connect with the game’s fiction and interact with each other,” said Jim Huntley, vice president of global brand marketing at THQ.
Now I’m not sure why harvesting each other’s souls might seem like that great a way for fans of your game to interact with each other, but then again, who am I to judge.
Darksiders II is set to launch August 14th, 2012, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
