SyFy has released the ratings performance stats for last night’s two hour premiere of Defiance, and the show has crushed a number of viewing records. Keep on reading for more really big numbers!
According to the release, 1.3 million adult humans between the [and probably a fair number of Votan] tuned in, making it their most-watched premiere since Eureka back in 2006. The total viewer count was 2.7 million, also making it the top performing single episode since a two-hour Warehouse 13 telecast back in April of 2009. On top of the big viewership numbers, watchers were super social, giving the show 56,000 ‘social exposures’ [I'm assuming that means 'unique mentions' in layman's terms] during the telecast.
The most surprising stat, though, is that Defiance brought more eyeballs to the screen for its premiere than HBO’s Game of Thrones and The Newsroom, FX’s The Americans, TNT’s Falling Skies and MTV’s Teen Wolf. Considering how impressive each of those opened, that’s a feat. There’s a bunch of other stats in the release, but let’s just say this: Defiance kicked ass last night.
SyFy also announced that the Defiance game has already logged a over six million combined gameplay hours. Pretty impressive for an MMO that’s only been out for about two weeks. Needless to say, the series seems to be fairing quite well so far. Here’s hoping it continues to do so! I, personally, really enjoyed the pilot.
Sound off below! What’s your take on the ‘transmedia’ project that is Defiance?
