[E3 2013] Watch_Dogs Demo First Impressions – Multiplayer

Everything is connected; connection is power.

In Watch Dogs, you are Aiden Pierce; a highly skilled computer hacker. Aiden must use his hacking skills in order to access the city of Chicago’s operating system to find camera access points, traffic lights, bank accounts, and anything else connected to the city OS throughout the city. Once Aiden has access to these cameras and other electronic devices, his abilities are limitless. Aiden’s most powerful weapon is not his gun but his cell phone which he uses to his advantage to overtake any obstacle he may encounter.

In the demonstration that was shown off to me at Ubisoft’s booth, I saw a multiplayer aspect of the game that I previously didn’t even know existed. At any given moment during the game, if someone is playing in the same server you are connected to, you may cross paths with them at any time in the game. In a sense you can come across anyone at any given moment within the game.

The game also integrates with a mobile app. Players will be able to log into your game through their iOS or Android app online and have an overhead view of what you see in your game. They will have the ability to lock up traffic through the app, take down helicopters or whatever it takes in helping Aiden escape any type of jam he may be in or help out during a mission. This can be done from anywhere as long as they are connected to your game. The app integration was very cool, and I must admit I was highly impressed. It worked without any hiccups or delays and it gives players the opportunity to play alongside you at any moment during gameplay.

Watch Dogs is easily one of the most highly anticipated games this year. It looks next gen and the multiplayer aspect of the game gives it the next gen feel with tablet/smart app integration within the game. Watch Dogs is shipping on November 19, 2013 in North America for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC. Ship dates for the next gen consoles are estimations at this time since the exact release dates have not been announced at this time from Sony & Microsoft.
