E3 Hands-On Preview: Assassin’s Creed III (Multi-Player Only)

Posted on June 7, 2012 AT 07:33pm

With the wildly popular trailer and preview for Assassin’s Creed III at the Ubisoft E3 Press Conference, many fans were extremely excited to get their hands on the game during E3. Thankfully, many were able to, though only in one of the multi-player mode. That is a sad fact, when considering how terrific the trailer and play-through looked during the conference, and how disappointing this multi-player experience was.

In a mode similar to “Domination”, where players are to secure and defend several bases, players here do just about the same, only while trying to keep themselves lost in the crowd as to not be targeted by other players. This means a lot of walking, as to not get noticed by the opposition, which made this mode kind of boring.

The other fault was that instead of finding your opponent, taking them out, then securing their base as your own, players can only stun their opponents until the base is secured for their side. This makes things difficult, because while your opponent can come in and kill you, you’re unable to do the same unless you can get the base first.

Hopefully there are other modes aside from this one, and surely the single-player experience will be terrific as it always is, but this may be one of the modes that only capture the interest of true fans of the game, and the stealth it requires. Perhaps improvements can be made before the release of the game on October 30th.
