Despite the delay, THQ and Vigil have been working tirelessly to get the best version of Darksiders II that they can to players. And while there hasn’t been too much up until E3 to show off, the folks over at THQ were nice enough to show off a thirty minute demo for the game, which focuses on the game’s opening mission, and features many of the techniques that will be used throughout this highly anticipated follow-up.
The main character, Death, plays much like the protagonist in Prince Of Persia, as he runs along walls, jumps from poles, and shows off his acrobatic side. But there is much more to this character, who is more nimble and agile than his brother, War, the lead in the first Darksiders.
The demo showed off an ice-themed dungeon, complete with a few treasure chests, plenty of enemies, a mini-boss, and the end boss for the mission. Without revealing too much, the first mission allowed players to do all the things Death will do, using his agility and speed to clear obstacles and obliterate enemies in the stunning combo system. With an RPG element to the game as well, with a leveling system that incorporates a skill tree to improve upon Death’s abilities, as well as gear options, this game is shaping up well in terms of gameplay.
While it’s not fully polished, the game looks great, though it’s noticeable that it’s not quite done yet. The open terrain is gorgeous though, and the environment in the ice-themed area was pulled off masterfully.
One of the most anticipated games of the year is almost ready to hit shelves, and it’s well worth the wait. Be ready this August, as Darksiders II hits the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.
