E3 Hands-On Preview: God Of War: Ascension (Multi-Player Only)
Posted on June 7, 2012 AT 07:32pm
God Of War is a major franchise for Sony, and coming March of 2013, Kratos will be back, and this time, he’s bringing friends. At this year’s E3, Sony was featuring a playable demo for the multi-player of God Of War: Ascension, which is as violent and brutal as the single player mode displayed at the Sony Press Conference.
While likely not yet in the final build, the game looked and played much better than expected for a game franchise that had never done multi-player before. The map was vast, the combos lengthy and varied, with all the chaos that is expected from the God Of War franchise.
While there were only a few different armor and weapon types, those working on the project have mentioned that there will be much, much more when the game releases, as well as new maps and modes, other than the “Favor Of The Gods” mode featured at E3, which is a points based TDM, with a special bonus for getting a certain weapon and taking down that map’s mighty, gigantic deity.
While button mashing gets old after awhile, the ability to use special moves and chain combos was pretty fun, and those who get a real feel for the game will likely be mashing less. The lack of Kratos in the multi-player is a bit disappointing, but with several other characters to use, the game mode should be plenty of fun, and a welcome change in the series, which up until this point, was getting stale.
God Of War: Ascension will be available March 13th, for the Playstation 3. More info can also be found here.
