E3 Hands-On Preview: Hybrid
Posted on June 5, 2012 AT 10:38pm
Xbox is launching their “Summer Of Arcade” in a few months, giving special deals on great new games for Xbox Live Arcade. One of the most anticipated ones to come from this new initiative is the third-person shooter with 5th Cell’s Hybrid, which was demoed at E3. This high-action shooter is similar in ways many gamers will know, but is unique in ways many wouldn’t expect.
The game was incredibly fun to play, with a jet propulsion movement system that replaces normal walking and running. Jump over cover with the push of a button, rocketing from place to place and back with the push of a button. While not being able to move normally may seem like an unforgivable offense, it actually works in the context of the game. Moving around is fun, and cover can even be found on the ceiling.
Shooting is pretty standard, with some very interesting rewards for killstreaks, including what looks like a robot ninja with a katana that comes in, kills an opponent, and teleports out. These rewards build until the ninja, with larger, tougher drones in between.
That game also has a class system that allows players to pick and choose abilities and types, as well as weapons, and multiple maps that all show players, on one of two sides, fighting for dominance of a certain point on the globe.
Coming to Xbox Live Arcade in a few months, Hybrid looks like a great addition to the library of any shooter fan.
