Earl Sweatshirt Gets Personal in “Chum”
Posted on November 1, 2012 AT 08:17pm
It was exciting news to know that Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt was returning from Samoa to continue rapping with his crew and do his own solo stuff. The unnerving point came when he explained that he was going to be changing his style. A lot of people were weirded out by that detail, and may or may not have been convinced with his comeback tracks. However, “Chum”, Earl’s latest track, seems like it would remove any doubts.
With Chum, he’s more direct with his personal lyrics. Giving a brief history of his life, his relationship with his father and Odd Future. He also takes a few shots at invasive media outlets that were seeking to dig for any kind of info they could find. Notably Complex, who did a huge investigative post last April. Instrumentally it kind of sounds like a cheerier take on Luper from the Earl record he first put out.
What do you nooblets think of it?
