It is safe to say that 2012 has been the year of crowdsourcing for game developers to help make their dreams come true. For gamers this is an interesting time because it allows them direct access to the developers and allows them to simply give money to the developers in exchange for access to the game when it is released. In theory, this is a very simple concept, one that seems like a no-brainer, but without a platform to reach the masses it was always a concept that seemed out of reach. Kickstarter has been the main method for game developers to show their games off to the world and help speak directly with the gamers and provide them with exclusive content.
Escalation Studios has been working Eternal Fate for about a year now, but announced today at QuakeCon that they had opted to utilize Kickstarter to help fund the rest of the game. Their Kickstarter page launched today and has a goal by September 1st to raise $200,000. Pledging money to Escalation Studios will not only give you access to the completed game when it is released, but priority access to the beta on the lowest donation level and guaranteed access to the beta when you donate $30 or more for the game.
For those who are unsure about the game, it is an action RPG with the promise of intense, competitive Player-vs-Player online multiplayer as one of the core features. Seeing as though the team developing the game come from teams that developed games like the Diablo series, Torchlight, Call of Duty, Team Fortress II and the Battlefield games, you can get an idea of what direction this game will head in while staying true to its FPS roots. Promised features are:
- Create and customize your persistent character with a nearly infinite combination of gear, spells and skills.
- Gather loot and gain experience by defeating your foes.
- Level up your character and unlock new items as you advance.
- Three unique character classes with distinct play styles.
Head over to their Kickstarter page now and reserve your copy now.
