F— This Jam Challenges Devs to Make Games in Genres They Hate
Posted on October 9, 2012 AT 10:43pm
[This article contains a few f-bombs here and there. If you like your language simple and clean like Hikaru Utada, perhaps you should skip this one. Don't say I didn't warn you!]
Vlambeers‘ Rami Ismail and indie dev Fernando Ramallo have announced an upcoming game jam with both a unique concept and equally unique name.
‘Fuck This Jam!’ is an online game jam being held from November 9th thru November 17th, in which game developers are challenged to make a game in the genre they most despise.
“Fuck This Jam is a call to developers to entirely rethink the kind of games they create and explore genres they would usually discard.”, said Fernando Ramallo of his intentions for the jam. Through utter ignorance for conventions and hate for the established rules of a genre, the organizers expect “beautiful things will happen.”
“We’re simply not sure of what this jam will bring, but it’ll definitely teach a lot of us developers things we otherwise would’ve simply never considered. Hopefully, we will be pushing genres past their preconceived notions and the individual developers to challenge themselves out of their comfort-zone.”, concluded Rami Ismail.
Who knows what sort of mutant creations will come out of this, but I have high hopes. You can register for updates on their official page, and also follow the jam on twitter.
Hey, I made it through the whole article without using the word ‘fuck’ out of context of the gamejam! Oh. Well. Fuck.
