Fable: The Journey Demo to be Released on September 17th for the Kinect-Inclined

Posted on August 17, 2012 AT 02:38pm

If you are like me, you own a Kinect and it is probably not plugged in. It really isn’t the fault of the device, actually, it is a very cool little device and is capable of some really amazing things. Really, it is just that the games available for it are not as bountiful as many were lead to believe. There are a lot of fun party and exercise games available for the Kinect, but when it comes to games that fall in line with more traditional gaming; telling a story, assuming the role of a character, there is not a lot to choose from. It is disappointing because titles like The Gunstringer were so much fun and showed so much promise in the Kinect, and there has yet to be anything as great for it.

That isn’t to say that there is no support at all, because there is. In Skyrim you can command shouts and equip weapons with your voice, in Mass Effect 3 you can also do some similar stuff with voice commands, and a few other games have motion or voice controls worked into them, but were they developed exclusively for the Kinect? No. The folks behind the Fable series are looking to change that with Fable: The Journey. Fable: The Journey takes place fifty years after Fable III and follows a character who falls outside of the hero lineage the series is known for.

No, this isn’t Fable IV, but it is a Fable game set in Albion which is exclusively for the Kinect, which is exciting. Controlling a horse by holding the reigns, using motion controls to attack enemies and cast spells and a whole lot more is promised within the game, and if you cannot wait until the launch, on September 17th you can download the demo on Xbox Live. On top of that, Lionhead has released a new video detailing the story and the world for you to digest while you wait.

Fable: The Journey will be launched exclusively on Xbox 360 using the Kinect on October 9th.
