Indie developer Dark Vale Games has not only announced their first game, but they have also released a teaser trailer for it. The PC-only release, FORGE, will be a PVP game with a mash-up of MMO abilities with the skill-based game play we have come to expect from a first person shooter. Dark Vale Games is hoping that the melting pot of elements used in FORGE will bring about a revolutionary style of game play.
FORGE is powered by the Unreal Engine 3 and is being toted by Dark Vale Games as the first of its kind for player versus player combat. The game will have the fast paced action of an FPS title with the competitive elements and abilities of a MMO game.
Timothy Alvis, COO/CTO of Dark Vale Games explained FORGE as this: “We’ve taken inspiration from some of the greatest pure shooters of all time, like the original Half Life and Unreal, and folded in the best parts of MMO PvP from games like World of Warcraft and Dark Age of Camelot. The result is a multiplayer experience that is unlike anything else on the market, an experience people have been asking for, even expecting, and we plan to make it a reality.”
The Devourer has swallowed the pantheon of gods and they desparately need to escape. In an effort to free themselves the gods have placed their warriors on a faceless world known as FORGE. Players must choose from five warrior classes and battle head-to-head against other players, all of whom are trying to free their respective god from The Devourers’ evil hands. Each warrior is armed with a set of unique abilities and will have the assistance of a mystical ally. The challenges that lay ahead for the player will vary, but each sacrifice will cost and will bring them closer to victory. More importantly, it will bring them closer to freedom.
Dark Vale Games is not alone in their effort to bring FORGE to the masses. The game is also being worked on by creative studio SuperGenius . SuperGenius’ most recent contributions to gaming include animantions for Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead. Also on hand for FORGE is Digital Confectioners, an indie developtment studio who worked on Rekoil, a title that unveiled this year at E3.
“Dark Vale Games is a small, independent developer, and working with the talented teams at SuperGenius and Digital Confectioners with Unreal Engine 3.0 allows us to deliver AAA quality in gameplay, technology and visuals while maintaining our indie attitude and price point,” said David Domm, CEO of Dark Vale Games. “We’ve all been waiting for years for a game to come out that combined the strategy of MMO PvP with the thrills and instant satisfaction of an FPS. When it didn’t arrive, we decided that we would have to make it ourselves.”
FORGE has no exact release date at this time, but is said to be scheduled for release later this year. For more information on FORGE, visit the games website: www.playforgewar.com.
