Yesterday, while all the Americans were out partying and blowing things up, the Japan Expo in France kicked off with a video from Pokemon X and Y‘s director, Junicha Masuda. In the video, Mr. Masuda explained how Kalos was heavily inspired by France and the theme of “beauty”. The name “Kalos” is even derived form the Greek word for “beauty”. He confirmed that the central city, Lumiose City, is indeed based off Paris, and also that several other locals would be based on other regions and cities in France such as Carnac, Avignon, Arles, Marseille, Nice, Èze, Mont Saint-Michel, and even the castles of Versailles and the Loire Valley.
Within the same video, a new Pokemon was revealed, Hitosuki, or as the French called it, Monorpale, and in English, it’s now Honedge. The new Ghost/Steel type looks like s sword and actually unsheathes itself from a scabbard at the start of battles.
You can view the video below, with English subtitles.
