Gaming on a Budget #3 – July 13th 2012

NOTE FROM THE WRITER- If you do not have a Steam account, you should get one now.  CLICK ME!  The Steam Summer Sale began yesterday, and my wallet is already emptied!

Welcome to the weekly series of Gaming on a Budget. While video game prices are on the rise, there are plenty of great games, great deals, and great steals for those who don’t mind playing games after they have been out for a while. My objective in this article is not necessarily to review games, but introduce you to lesser known games, websites, and deals that may be hard to find. I help you get through the week with upcoming weekend sales, free play weekends, and a recap of games you should always have ready to play.

FREE TO PLAY- MicroVolts- This 3rd person shooter with a very cartoony style graphics, which has a fast paced game play.  Forced to fight for resources, your can swap between seven weapon types to attempt to earn supremacy in the MicroWorld.  There are ten different game modes and the ability to create your own clan to battle over the 15 different maps.  Don’t let these toys fool you, they’re dangerous!  As with most games I choose, you can pick them up on Steam right now.

FRANCHISE DEAL- Sega Collection- Original Cost- $424.57.  Bundle Cost- $49.99!  Over on Steam you can pick up the Sega Bundle that has all of your favorite games from the company, including the Streets of Rage trilogy, Sonic Generations, Golden Axe, and Alex Kidd!  Head on over to steam as there are over 70 games in this collection!  Less than a dollar a game!

INDIE SPOTLIGHT-  Terraria- This game is very hard to describe as it’s a mixture of just about everything wanted in a video game, but tied together very well.  It’s biggest features are the fact that all worlds are generated randomly, it’s open sandbox, and there are free content updates.  So while you’re digging, fighting, exploring, and building in the action RPG platformer, this never ending game will keep coming back with new challenges and obstacles to keep you playing.  Pick it up on Steam for $9.99, but during the Steam Summer Sale it’s typically cheaper (until 1am on July 14th 2012 EST, it’s $2.49 for one copy, and $7.49 for a 4-Pack)

KEN’S SPOTLIGHT- Defense Grid: The Awakening- While this game may be reaching its fourth year anniversary this upcoming December, it’s probably one of the few games that I played for so long always trying to better my score.  Fans of Warcraft Tower Defense (or any tower defense games) will love this game as you go through an interesting storyline.  While the original game had many game modes, when you add map packs and other DLC on the cheap, it’s well worth the cost.  Until July 23rd, this game and all the DLC will only cost you $7.99 on Steam and you can check out more about the upcoming sequel at the Hidden Path Website.

Thank you for stopping by this week, as I appreciate each and every reader. You can follow me on Twitter if you would like at @RadioInfluence for updates on everything beer, gaming, wrestling, and sports and follow the site at @DigitalNoob_Com for all updates on everything nerd!
