Gaming on a Budget #9 – August 24th 2012

Posted on August 24, 2012 AT 07:00am

Welcome to the weekly series of Gaming on a Budget. While video game prices are on the rise, there are plenty of great games, great deals, and great steals for those who don’t mind playing games after they have been out for a while. My objective in this article is not necessarily to review games, but introduce you to lesser known games, websites, and deals that may be hard to find. I help you get through the week with upcoming weekend sales, free play weekends, and a recap of games you should always have ready to play.

FREE TO PLAY- World of Tanks- Probably one of the most well known unknown multiplayer shooter games out there which allows you to battle in clan battles, team training battles, or random battles. This free to play game allows you to control tanks as you traverse across many maps choosing one of the 500+ types of tanks including light, meadium, and self propelled guns. Winning best award for Best New Concept in 2010 at E3 and Best Game that Needed an Award from Gamepro at E3 2011. Sign up and drive at their website today!

INDIE SPOTLIGHT- Garry’s Mod- Released nearly six years ago, Garry’s Mod is one of the biggest and most interesting modification to the Half Life 2 engine. Spawn your own objects, create your on contraptions, and enjoy this weird yet amazing game where there are no goals, nobody to kill, just leaving you and your imagination to create the most interesting things out there. This is one you have to see for yourself, and you can see it, only on Steam!

KEN’S SPOTLIGHT- Team Fortress 2: Mann vs. Machine- This co-op addition to Team Fortress 2 allows you to use your already FREE TO PLAY game Team Fortress 2 on your PC, and gives you this 6 person defense game in which you are battling hoards of opponents including robot sinpers, robot demoman, and the ability to make specialized games including the Christmas version of a game that you can find on Entropy’s server at ‘connect;password pokerchips’. This game costs $0.99 per completion of a level, and you can get it with your copy of TF2 on Steam .
