Gaming Under the Influence #3 ~ July 19th 2012

Posted on July 19, 2012 AT 07:48am

BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!  Starting next week, this will be a VIDEO SHOW!  Get your beers ready!  I do realize this was mentioned last week, but due to the heat, it caused a brown out at the home, and I was unable to record anything without any working power.  So please enjoy the word version of this editorial, and we will be back next week with a video!

One thing a lot of the adults have learned is that when you grew up, your Mountain Dew’s and Bawls Energy Drinks have turned into beer and Jack & Coke’s. A lot of us still play the party games, but things have progressed from the days of Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo. Welcome to the world of Gaming Under the Influence, where we introduce you to some craft beers, interesting drink concoctions, and video games that you can turn into drinking games.

Each week we will concentrate on a system and rotate it every week between all consoles and of course PC games. This week we will be discussing some fun things you can do while you have friends over and playing on your Game Boy (and basically through all forms of current gaming consoles).  We all remember connecting the game boy with your friends to battle in Pokemon and Dr. Mario, but this week we will discuss one of the top selling games of all time, Tetris!

Week #3 Game- Tetris

This can be played by 2-4 players depending on what system and what version you are playing.

Rule #1- Every time you send a Tetris (4 lines) to an opponent, you must take a drink of beer.  This will help even out the playing field and make you think twice if you want to send back to back Tetris’

Rule #2- If by sending a Tetris causes the opponents screen to overfill and get a knockout, the opponent must take three drinks

Rule #3- At the end of the match, the opponent with the smallest score / least lines will have to take the ‘loser shot’, which we will introduce later in this editorial.

Rule #4- Sub out the worst player so that more people can have fun!

Week #3 Concoction- Russian Screwdriver

While staying true to keeping the drink towards the style of game, we are taking our roots back to Russia!  What you’ll need is very simple, Russian Standard Vodka and Orange Juice.  Pour accordingly to taste (and drunkenness) 2 or more ounces of vodka, and fill the rest of the glass with orange juice and ice.  Mix softly, and enjoy the taste of a alcoholic classic with a Russian Twist

Week #3 Loser Shot- Popov

Let’s just say this one does not go down easy, and will deter people from wanting to lose more, but don’t worry, even famous people like Lorraine McFly enjoy the taste of Popov Vodka!  No mixing needed, this shot is punishment enough!

Week #2 Beer- BRIK Irish Red

This one may be a little harder to find, but with the name BRIK, and the game involves you dropping bricks, it goes hand in hand.  This Irish red comes in a Michigan 8-Pack (6 16oz Cans) and can be found in a lot of places in Metro Detroit.  This is a must have for travelers to the Detroit area, and a great beer to give to friends who may not be from the area!

That will do it for this week do it today. We want you to drink responsibly and always have a place to crash or a designated driver if you intend on drinking too much.
