Gaming Under the Influence #4 ~ July 26th 2012

NOTE FROM THE WRITER: I’d like to regret to inform you that due to my busy schedule and upcoming QuakeCON, I am unable to provide you with this video show for a few weeks. What does that mean for you? If you find me at QuakeCON (and you’re of age), I will buy you a beer as an apology! I go by the name KenCo12, and you can easily spot me there!

One thing a lot of the adults have learned is that when you grew up, your Mountain Dew’s and Bawls Energy Drinks have turned into beer and Jack & Coke’s. A lot of us still play the party games, but things have progressed from the days of Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo. Welcome to the world of Gaming Under the Influence, where we introduce you to some craft beers, interesting drink concoctions, and video games that you can turn into drinking games.

Each week we will concentrate on a system and rotate it every week between all consoles and of course PC games. This week we will still be branching over multiple consoles including the PC, as we play one of my favorite trivia games, You Don’t Know Jack!

Week #4 Game- You Don’t Know Jack (Any variation, except that TV show, it was God awful!)

This can be played by 1-4 players depending on what system and what version you are playing. The rules will be set up for the present PlayStation 3 version, but please feel free to adapt them to your specific needs!

  • Rule #1- If you use your screw attack on an opponent and they get it wrong, they must take three drinks. If you use your screw attack on an opponent and they get it right, you must take the loser shot!
  • Rule #2- For every question you answer incorrectly, you must take a drink. Pretty simple!
  • Rule #3- During a Dis or Dat, for every question right the player gets, he may hand off a drink to somebody else, but for every question stolen by an opponent, the Dis or Dat player must take two drinks!
  • Rule #4- At the end of the Jack Attack, the loser must take the loser shot. If there are more people than controllers, the person with the lowest score will be subbed out.

Week #4 Concoction- Jack Rose

Popular in the 20’s and 30’s, and also notably appeared in Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, this drink has you mix two parts applejack, 1 part lemon (or lime) juice, and a half part of grenadine. You typically shake this into a chilled glass, and you serve without ice. Feel free to class it up with a cherry or apple slice, and drink it from a cocktail glass. Or go cheap and grab your red solo cup.

Week #4 Loser Shot- Jack Attack
One ounce of Jack Daniels. One Ounce of Yukon Jack. No mixer. Enjoy!

Week #4 Beer- Firestone Walker ~ Union Jack IPA

Winning plenty of awards including the Best American IPA Gold Medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival and the 2010 best IPA from Maxim Magazine, this beer has a few instructions to make sure you drink it and for it to taste great. With a big hop aroma and having it double dry hopped, this beer allows for more flavor and to be more citrusy. Make sure to check out the ‘born on’ date though, as the beer is not pasteurized, so store it at 44 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, stay out of light, and drink within 4 months of the bottled date.

That will do it for this week do it today. We want you to drink responsibly and always have a place to crash or a designated driver if you intend on drinking too much.
