Well, there goes my social life. NCsoft and ArenaNet have finally announced the release date for their addictive action oriented MMO Guild Wars 2, and coincidentally it happens to be a few days before I go back to Uni… Apparently my GPA is about to die as well. So yes, MMO and fantasy fans alike will be able to enjoy exploring the world of Tyria and its many stories on the 28th of August.
“We’re offering gamers an experience that delivers on the promise of online gaming with a truly social experience in an immense, shared world ,” said Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. “After five years of creation, development, and polish, announcing the launch date of Guild Wars 2 is a huge milestone for us, but the thing we’re most looking forward to is seeing gamers from all over the globe explore this world and begin creating their own stories.”
As they prepare for launch, ArenaNet will continue to focus on polishing Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality experience on launch day, which includes hosting a final Beta Weekend Event from the 20th to the 22nd of July. More details will be released as to the content of this beta the closer we get to it. After getting into a few of the previous beta weekends I can honestly say I cannot wait for this game, the level-less way to explore the world and the emphasis on story that we are starting to see is an interesting change to the MMO format. I think we are finally moving beyond the World of Warcraft style of MMOs that developers have been failing to copy for years now, a change is coming and Guild Wars 2 is certainly a good look at where it can go.
