Her Universe To Release Doctor Who Collection

Posted on June 27, 2012 AT 10:49am

Her Universe, the popular sci-fi fangirl merchandise company, along with BBC Worldwide, has announced the July 11th launch of their new Doctor Who apparel line. For those going to San Diego Comic Con, this will be on preview night. Her Universe already has an abundant following with their Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica merchandise, adding the Doctor will just add to it.

Doctor Who, the longest-running sci-fi series in the world, has grown in popularity since its relaunch in 2005. It continues to earn critical acclaim as BBC America’s highest rated series as well as the number one downloaded series for iTunes in 2011. Her Universe has taken note of the expanding female fan base of the show and the need to create unique apparel and merchandise just for them.

The collection will feature images, characters and phrases from the Doctor Who universe all with fashionable designs for girls and women. “Geek Chic” is still here and Her Universe is playing a great role in keeping it here. BBC Worldwide has also created a special Doctor Who logo just for female fans. This logo will only appear on merchandise from the exclusive Her Universe collection.

Founder of Her Universe and voice of Ahsoka Tano in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ashley Eckstein, has also designed and created much of the merchandise for sale from the company. ”Her Universe is a line for the fans,” said Eckstein. “Many of our design choices and decisions are influenced by our fans and Doctor Who was the #1 requested license by fangirls for us to pursue next. It was truly a dream come true when BBC Worldwide asked us to do their female merchandise and I am beyond excited to share this extraordinary announcement with our girls today! In the words of the Doctor, I feel like screaming Geronimo!”

Doctor Who apparel and accessories will be available in the United States and Canada at both Her Universe and BBC America sites. The merchandise will be available at retail outlets such as Hot Topic, and Her Universe booths will also be found at select conventions throughout 2012.
