You’re reading that correctly… Hideo Kojima will be going to the middle east. Particularly the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). The reason for this being that Kojima will be joining the Dubai distributor, Pluto Games, to promote the upcoming February launch of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the 25th Anniversary of the Metal Gear Series. This visit will be a big move for Kojima Productions as well as sign that Konami is definitely down for strategically expanding to the Middle East. Following a tour to some of Dubai’s biggest retailers and partners, Kojima will be the guest of honor at a dedicated press conference at the Sunset Garden, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, on January 17th. Afterwards, there will be a dinner with key gaming industry members of the Middle East.
Considering that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be launching next month in the region on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. It’s said that the mainstream press from the region will have a great opportunity to meet Hideo Kojima and have more in-depth news to provide about the upcoming game and the future as far as Kojima Productions and Konami are concerned. Fans of Konami and Kojima will be able to to take part in this visit with an event specifically for them on Jan 18th at their retail partner Geekay Games, at Mirdif City Centre. Over there the regions most prized collection of Konami and Kojima products will be on display. Attendees will have a chance to meet Kojima and receive a limited edition signed by the man himself.
This is definitely going to be a big step considering that Dubai is like the middle eastern Sillicon Valley and Pluto Games is one of the largest distributors of gaming products in the Middle Eastern Region. Largest meaning that they operate in places like: Dubai, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman and Egypt. They’ve already established relationships with gigantic industry beasts like Microsoft, Disney, Capcom, Bethesda, Tecmo-Koei, Madcatz and several more. Adding Konami to that list of connections just solidifies their status as a serious mover and shaker within the Pragma Group’s successful Pragma Technologies arm.
The TL;DR of it: Kojima and Konami are hitting the Middle Eastern Sillicon Valley that is Dubai, connecting with Pluto Games to release Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and it’s going to be BIG.
