Image Comics went all out with news today, announcing some news on two new books and announcing sellouts for three more. This is part of a string of sellouts for major issues of their creator-owned titles and continuing what has been a great year for the company.
The first of the new titles comes from the long-standing creative team of Antony Johnston and Christopher Mitten with the dark fantasy series Umbral. In Umbral, a young thief named Rascal breaks in to the royal palace during a very rare solar event. It’s during this that Rascal sees a very jarring event: the begin of an invasion that results in the murders of the King and Queen by the Umbral, a mystical shadow being that no one knows anything about. This series was announced at Image Expo earlier this year, and will be in stores with Umbral #1 on November 13th.
The second new series take place on the other end of the spectrum, with the science fiction love story Alex + Ada. This series focuses on a man and a companion droid who lives only to serve. Though, it’s not certain whether or not the man wants to be served. This series marks the return of creator Jonathan Luna, who took a break from comics for a few years after the end of his last series, The Sword. It also shows off the word of co-writer Sarah Vaughn. This futuristic tale will release on November 6th.
In a move that is no surprise for those aware of the titles, three major Image Comics titles selling out at distributor level. Saga, The Walking Dead and East Of West all sold through their distibutor copies, with Saga getting a reprint as soon as possible, with a date looking to be September 25th, the day of release of Saga #14. These three titles are major successes, especially given the massive run of The Walking Dead and the massive praise that has come for Saga.
