Image’s The Walking Dead Becomes Best Selling Comic This Century
Posted on July 15, 2012 AT 08:41pm
Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead has become a behemoth in numerous mediums, but especially in its original form of content, comic books. The landmark 100th issue had a huge amount of copies for the original release on July 11th, and with San Diego Comic-Con just wrapping up, the massive convention helped make this issue the highest selling issue since another Image-related title, 1997′s The Darkness #11.
The issue, which had 13 variant covers and initially shipped nearly four hundred thousand copies, all of which sold out either through retailers or at the convention, which was heavily featuring Kirkman’s incredibly popular series. With events such as The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego, which featured many people effectively running for their lives from zombies, as well as having participants dressed up as the undead was a huge hit, as well as Kirkman’s “Survival Machine”, a Hyundai Elantra GT that was wrapped in artist Charlie Adlard’s iconic issue #100 cover.
Congrats to Image Comics, the Skybound Imprint and everyone involved with The Walking Dead for this achievement. This is a landmark record for sales, and is only just the beginning for this incredible series.
