Right after the release of the Wii U, there have to be some questions floating around about the fate and timing of the upcoming consoles from Microsoft and Sony. We know that they are coming, but most details on them are pretty hush-hush, which comes across as odd as we can go out to a store and purchase the Wii U right now (albeit some might sell out due to that whole surge demand with limited supply thing) and know a lot about it. Just in time to get caught up in the Wii U hypestorm comes some news about Microsoft’s next generation console, which we’ve known lovingly as the Xbox 720.
Dan Dawkins of Xbox World has used the last issue of that magazine to quite simply just spill all of the goods that they’ve been sitting on for the past year, and some of it is stuff we already knew, while some is truly new. The name of the console will not be Xbox 720, according to their reports, but instead it will be simply, “Xbox.” I think that enough time has passed since the first Xbox to where very few people are going to go out and see an old Xbox for $20 on ebay and purchase it thinking that they’ve struck gold.
Some of the other details are that it will come with a Kinect 2.0 that will be able to track up to four players. It will also use a Blu-Ray drive (thank god), feature directional audio, have a TV in and out and somewhere down the line it will even feature AR glasses. Awesome. [Source]
