Rhythm games have saturated the market and telling the good from bad is a daily chore. Certain titles shine while others should have never hit store shelves. Seems the market will never go away but one company is trying to better the rhythm games. Zen Studios is taking the rhythm game and kicking up the genre in a literal sense. KickBeat is the new highly energetic take on rhythm games but with a kung fu twist. Where other games give you boring arrows to look at Kick Beat will let you enjoy fighting cut scenes. Music will come as hard as the hits in the game with bands like Pendulum and Marilyn Manson, to indie pioneers Celldweller and Blue Stahli, to hidden talents like electronic music producer Voicians and Taiwanese rapper Shen Yi.
“Several years ago, we asked ourselves, ‘What would happen if we took a beat-matching game, replaced the abstract cues like bars, arrows, and button icons with kung fu fight scenes, and set it all to some incredibly intense music?’” said Neil Sorens, Creative Director for Zen Studios. “We spent three years turning that idea into in Kickbeat, and anyone looking for something fresh and exciting and the music genre is in for a treat.”
