Konami Unveils New Metal Gear Game and Fox Engine
Posted on August 30, 2012 AT 01:42am
Just recently in Tokyo, Konami went on to demonstrate their new Fox Engine and showcase footage of the new game, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Ground Zeroes will be an open world game and has been stated by Hideo Kojima that: “This announcement is a challenge from Kojima Productions to the world,”
The tech demo, which was featured on a PC with current generation specs, demonstrated the Fox Engine’s ability to handle clothing, textures, rain and lighting. According to game localizer Mark MacDonald of 8-4, the demo started with a realtime cut-scene and some gameplay. In the demo, it showcased the gruff hero ducking searchlights, making stealth kills and stealing a jeep. Kojima seems to be pushing for more innovation, making Ground Zeroes a “Game without Game Over”. So even if a player were to be discovered, the game would turn into an escape issue rather than a simple game over.
An interesting thing to note is that the new Fox Engine is not just planned for current gen consoles. It seems that Konami is gearing up for future gen and cloud gaming as well.
While footage of the gameplay is not available, as it was prohibited by Konami. You can, however, check out some snapshots of the newer gen Snake below.
