Back in April, Wizards of the Coast announced another addition to their library of Magic: the Gathering video games. Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is due to launch sometime this summer. Previous releases of Duels of the Planeswalkers and Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 were limited to just Xbox LIVE, PC, and PS3. In addition to the previously listed platforms, the 2013 edition will also be available for the iPad and on Steam.

“We’re excited to make Magic: The Gathering even more accessible to our growing player base by adding iPad to the suite of platforms that Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 will be available on this summer,” said Worth Wollpert, Director of Digital Games for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast. “Given that the original Duels and Duels 2012 have been downloaded well over 2 million times combined since its launch in June 2009, our customers are clearly enjoying what we’ve done with the game to this point, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer both new and existing Magic fans exciting content and game play options on a world-class tablet platform that many of our customers have been asking for.”

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 will offer 10 new decks,optional manual mana tapping, and a new-to-digital multiplayer game mode called Planechase. New players can expect to see an easy-to-use tutorial to learn how to play Magic: the Gathering. The ultimate goal (and final battle) is to defeat that challenging and dastardly Planeswalker, Nicol Bolas.

It seems close to the same, User Interface wise. In any case, there’s no reason to change what already works. Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 still does not have a release date, but is due out at some point during Summer 2012.
