Mario’s Latest Adventure is a Tad Bit Sticky

Mario’s foray into the papery world of Paper Mario features the 2-D hero in a very 3-D world on the 3DS system. The rather colorful game takes full advantage of the system’s glasses-free 3D capabilities, making the world seem like a diorama from an elementary school kid’s project. Says Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, “The 3D graphics and the introduction of stickers add a fresh new element that will have players glued to their games.”

Paper Mario Sticker Star is all about everyone’s favorite car bumper decoration, taken to new levels. Stickers are used for everything from attacks to story telling. They come in all shapes and sizes, and can be arranged on the screen in different ways to solve puzzles, do amazing attacks and just plain kicking major butt. The game takes a note from Super Paper Mario, allowing the player to switch between 2-D and 3-D via “Paperization” which flattens the world so that stickers can be artfully placed within the correct hitbox to solve puzzles, unlock secrets and make the world come to life.

Stickers are also the key to the game’s turn-based battling system. Each attack requires one sticker. Under normal circumstances, only one sticker can be used at a time, however if the player is willing to take a gamble with some coins, then he can give the Battle Spinner a try and possibly gain the chance to use three stickers for an even better attack, which can be especially advantageous in boss battles.

Like with all first party Nintendo 3DS games, Sticker Star is available both as a cartridge or can be downloaded via the eShop. Nintendo is also currently running a promotion for Club Nintendo members who download and register the game on their account where they can receive a free download code for the Donkey Kong: Original Edition game, also from the eShop.
