The internet has been swirling the past couple of days, after an image of Marvel icon Jean Grey in her original Marvel Girl costume, drawn by Joe Quesada, was released to Entertainment Weekly. After much peculation, Marvel has finally confirmed the new we all wanted to know: Yes, Jean is back. Just not in the way many were expecting.
In fact, a bunch of characters are coming back, or are now a part of a brand new initiative, to start after the effects of Avengers Vs. X-Men. While not a full reboot, the Marvel Now! initiative will star several new series, as well as a few relaunches. That will include All-New X-Men (written by Brian Michael Bendis), which takes the original five of the might mutant team (Iceman, Beast, Angel, Cyclops, and Marvel Girl) and has them time-travel to the present day.
An Avengers book is coming as well, titled simply, Avengers. This one will be a bi-weekly series that will not feature just a few of the popular super-team, but over a dozen. While a line-up has been kept under wraps by writer Jonathan Hickman, he did mention that the master of Kung-Fu himself, Shang Chi, will be on the team.
A mash-up book of sorts is also in store, as after AvX, Captain America realizes he hasn’t done all he can for the mutant race. Uncanny Avengers, according to writer Rick Remeder, will feature many of the characters from both franchises, including Cap, Thor, and Wolverine. And not only will the teams heroes be mashed up, but the villains will, as well, starting with the notorious Captain America villain, Red Skull.
These announcements will be detailed more in-depth at San Diego Comic Con, so stick around for more upcoming news on this major initiative.
