Peter Molyneux’s first game since his departure from Microsoft and Lionhead finally gets a release date. The game is called Curiosity and will be released on August 22nd.
In Molyneux’s typical style, he isn’t shy about hyping up any of his games.
“”[It is] is so valuable, and so life-changingly important,” he insisted. “It’s so amazing I think it will appear on news reports. It’s not a dead cat, by the way.” States Molyneux
Looks like the game will feature one million players collectively chiseling away at a cube formed of 60m smaller cubes with the aim of attempting to reach the mysterious prize hidden at the center. DLC has already been announced for the game as well. The DLC will get you a diamond chisel which is 100,000 times more powerful than the player’s default tool. Unfortunately, it is only available once. But that’s not what makes the DLC important; The DLC is priced at $50,000.
“Why is that not nice? We can’t be ashamed for asking people to spend money. We can’t be ashamed of that. As a designer that is proof that I have done something meaningful. I’m not saying that you have to buy these chisels – and I don’t expect the diamond chisel to ever be purchased. If it is I want to meet that person. They may be an investor or something! I’m not doing this to purely monetize, but I don’t mind monetization. I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed of.” Exclaims Molyneux at Rezzed.
I have to admit that after reading about Curiosity that I’m thoroughly not excited. Ever since my disappointment with Fable 2, I have yet to trust much of anything that comes out of Peter Molyneux’s mouth about any of his games. With his superb super power in over hyping his games, I don’t think he can over hype this one enough to make me try it out.
