One of the gems of the SEGA Saturn was NiGHTS Into Dreams, a 2D-3D hybrid of a platformer. Since it’s release, SEGA has brought back the title in various ways, but mostly in homages in all-purpose SEGA titles. A sequel was made for the Wii a few years back that was largely panned.

Just announced for the PC, Xbox Live Arcade and the PS3′s PlayStation Network, a new port of the title looks to bring back the magic. Including 16:9 graphics upgraded for a modern age, the title also includes the original Saturn release. As par for the course, leaderboards, achievements and trophies are all added to the mix to make the game more 2012 than 1996.

No word if there will be a Christmas NiGHTs mode (complete with playable Sonic the Hedgehog), but that wouldn’t be out of the question.

No specific release date was revealed, but it seems likely for the fall. Joystiq has the trailer.
