Nintendon’t? Wreck-It Ralph Is Playing Exclusively With Power
Posted on June 25, 2012 AT 09:51pm
Video game tie-ins to movies are traditionally cash grabs, hitting any and all consoles they can. Back in the 16-bit days, the versions could either be as close as the Genesis and Super Nintendo could be, or could be vastly different, such as Disney’s Aladdin. In recent years, some movies such as Green Lantern features different art styles between the consoles; Nintendo’s admittedly-weaker consoles found their strength in cartoon-like visuals, while Sony and Microsoft went for a more realistic approach.
Wreck-It Ralph, on the other hand, has decided to stay exclusive with the oldest video game player in the field, releasing exclusively for the Nintendo DS, 3DS, and Wii. Despite a fall launch, the movie title won’t be reaching the upcoming WiiU as of now. Activision and Disney Interactive will be producing the side-scrolling arcade-stylized title. Set after the movie, Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix JR. must swap between their destructive and repairing powers. On the Wii, the title will include two-player co-op.
The titles will feature the video games made for the movie. Given the nature of the story, it wouldn’t be surprising if Activision and Nintendo characters appeared in the game, but don’t expect Sony or Microsoft-exclusive characters to join the fray.
