NotePal ErgoStand Basic Laptop Cooler

By

There are always times when we wish our laptops were more like desktops or that we could use both at the same time in a more ergonomic manner. Cooler Master has a solution to that annoying problem, the NotePal ErgoStand Basic.

When this little item landed on my doorstep, I thought it was a lap desk. It isn’t. It isn’t even possible to use it as a lap desk. However, it is a way to use your laptop as a monitor, allowing for better screen adjustment and offering a cooling fan to keep everything running smoothly. The NotePal ErgoStand Basics offers:

  • Five angle stand
  • Cooling pad
  • Movable anti-slip props
  • Cable management handles
  • USB port extender
  • USB cable clips
  • Silent 140mm fan
  • Ergonomic design

Basically, this is a stand for your laptop. You can adjust the height and angle to allow you to use the laptop as a monitor effectively turning it into a desktop. The ErgoStand Basic will support up to a 17″ laptop. Though made of metal and plastic, it feels pretty solid. I am sure some would argue it appears flimsy or cheaply made.

You are meant to use the laptop with a USB keyboard. The different angle adjustments allow for a more ergonomically friendly view of the monitor. This is a pretty handy device if you only have a laptop, like me, and do PC gaming or spend a lot of time working from your laptop. Let’s face it, full-sized keyboards are much handier for gaming and other tasks like 10-key work.

The stand worked. The fan is super quiet, so quiet you will forget it is on. The fan plugs into your laptop via USB port and has a USB port extender so you aren’t losing a USB. The fact it the fan is powered by your laptop and not a battery is very economical.  The props slide from side to side easily and hold your laptop pretty securely. They also come off easily so be careful or you might misplace one. The five angles will offer a view for everyone though I only used the two lower angles myself. I am short, what can I say? My laptop was secure and the stand did everything it promised. It is about the size of a laptop when folded all the way down so with a big enough computer bag, you could take it with you.

If you need a pretty basic stand that offers cooling, this is the one for you. Cooler Master offers models with more features like fan speed adjustment and extra USB ports if you want something more than just the basics. It’s black and will coordinate with just about any laptop out there. It will prove to be a valuable asset for your computing needs.

Summary:

  • The Good: lightweight, ergonomic and economical.
  • The Bad: Plastic construction could give impression of being cheap.
  • The Ugly: Holders can come off easily making for a possible precarious perch for laptop.

SCORE: 8.0
