November 10, 2012 Halo 4 Livestream Recap
Posted on November 12, 2012 AT 05:47pm
What better way to celebrate the release of Halo 4 than with a few multiplayer matches by some of the DigitalNoob crew? This past weekend Ross, Russ, and I decided to test our mettle with a bit of Spartan Ops and Big Team Slayer.
Our multiplayer sessions started with the first mission of Spartan Ops, “Land Grab” on Quarry on the Legendary Difficulty. This large, desert map is loaded with tons of human and Covenant vehicles which are perfect to lay waste to the masterful Covenant Infantry. Let’s just say we bit off more than we could chew in this match. Our own corpses littered the battlefield almost as much as our fallen enemies. Elites and Grunts alike had near perfect accuracy with their Fuel Rod Cannons. I personally found the most success using the classic Halo noob combo (Battle Rifle and Plasma Pistol) to take down Elites and Covenant vehicles.
Our second match was a continuation of the Spartans Ops missions, “Sniper Alley” on Sniper Alley (Great missions name, right?). This time we dialed down the difficulty to Heroic so we might have the opportunity actually feel like badass Spartan IV’s. The Covenant was much more manageable on Heroic and the lack of vehicles in this match worked to our advantage. Ross and Russ dashed headfirst into battle while I sat back and sniped for most of the match. After clearing our way to an ordnance drop I finally picked up my preferred human Sniper Rifle, but never had the opportunity to use it.
The Prometheans were 0-2 against us at this point. Our final match tally went like this:
James: 52 Kills, 4 Deaths
Russ: 22 Kills, 8 Deaths
Ross: 6 Kills, 6 Deaths
The final Spartan Ops mission for this week was “Core” on The Cauldron. This mix of open areas and Forerunner structures was the backdrop for a battle between us and the Covenant/Forerunner Alliance. Grunts were especially nasty when using Plasma Turrets, but once again they were no match for the DigitalNoob crew (I know it’s near impossible to lose on this mode but we had fun anyway).
The tally for the final Spartan Ops mission looked like this:
James: 52 Kills, 4 Deaths
Russ: 31 Kills, 6 Deaths
Ross: 12 Kills, 4 Deaths
I thought the Ross, Russ and Myself did pretty well overall for our first Halo 4 outing, but I’m admittedly a bit biased. Here are our final totals for Spartan Ops:
James: 267 Kills, 55 Deaths
Russ: 107 Kills, 63 Deaths
Ross: 79 Kills, 81 Deaths
After we were finished with Spartans Ops we decided to try our luck at some Big Team Slayer. The two matches we played were on Vortex and Exile and let’s just say we did not do as well as we would have liked. Or final multiplayer stats are entirely too embarrassing to post, so I’ll just let the matches speak for themselves:
So here’s what we learned from multiplayer:
- The Ghost loses to a Rocket Turret every time
- Like always, Assassinations are great for the highlight reel but leave you wide open for retaliation
- Charging headfirst into battle like LEEEEROOOYYYY JEEEENNKIIIINNNNSSS probably isn’t going to help us win too many matches.
Overall, Ross, Russ, and I had a great time with Halo 4. The multiplayer is as fun as it always has been even though there’s a
